Cheryl Cooper - Interm President

Cheryl has been a resident of Muskoka for 31 years. She is a former teacher of the Deaf, and is presently a public speaker and the author of three works of historical fiction, set on the high seas during the War of 1812.

Dan Gardiner

Dan first came to Muskoka for 1 year, back in 1998. Having sat on the board of various local endeavours, kids’ sports organizations and service clubs, Dan has a long history of community involvement. Dan joined the Muskoka Children’s Foundation to help ensure all kids in Muskoka have opportunities for success and enjoyment. Dan lives in Huntsville with his wife Stacy, their children Makaila, Ben & Ashley, pets and an ever increasing amount of local wildlife looking for handouts.

Jill Golden

Jill and her family moved to Muskoka in 2002. After several years in sales and marketing she became a teacher and since 2006, has taught in various schools throughout Muskoka working with kids from Kindergarten to grade 6.

Jill believes strongly in what the CFM does and how giving a child equal opportunity sets them up for success.

Casey Jacob

Raised in Huntsville, Casey has recently retired back to Muskoka after a long career working with various children’s services in York Region. Previously employed as a Program and Policy Analyst by the Ministry of Education - Early Years Division, and as a Director of Operations for a large non-profit child care operator, Casey is a passionate advocate for children, and is looking forward to making a positive contribution to Muskoka families through working with the CFM. Casey enjoys swimming, cooking, reading and skiing, and is a proud mom of two adult children.

Mark Janke

Mark was born in Huntsville and now lives in Bracebridge with his wife and two kids. He has been an educator at TLDSB for the past 15 years. He enjoys time listening to music, cheering on the Raptors and doing all things tech for the CFM.

Shaun Kruger

Shaun was born and raised in Bracebridge and currently lives in Huntsville with his wife and two girls. He has been an educator with TLDSB for the last 16 years. He has been involved with Canadian Mental Health association and is now excited to share his talents to help the children of Muskoka.

Jen lives in Huntsville and works at Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School. She enjoys spending time outside with her husband and her three-and-a-half year old daughter.

Dave Lyons - Executive Director

5 year on the board, 2 years as ED

Dave is recently retired from Trillium Lakelands DSB where he worked as the Healthy Active Living Consultant. He is a passionate advocate for well-being and building inclusive and equitable communities. Dave's a proud dad of 2 wonderful daughters and husband of Patti, a TLDSB Special Education Resource Teacher. His pastimes include nordic skiing, running, woodwork, and getting out in the bush with his black lab, Maggie.

Darlene Morin - Administrative Assistant

9 years as staff of CFM

Darlene is an Educational Assistant with the Near North DSB and is a resident of Port Sydney.

She was a past co-owner in a restoration business, loves home crafts and helping others. The Board is appreciative of the great work she has done over the past nine years in keeping the office running...and in particular her amazing butter tarts!

Kim McKenzie

New to Board 2019

Kim McKenzie was born and raised in Muskoka and currently lives in Bracebridge with her husband and two children. Kim has previously worked for Muskoka Tourism, the Bracebridge Chamber of Commerce and Chubb Insurance Company of Canada in Toronto. She is presently the third generation working in a local, family-run business Modern Home Carpet One and, after celebrating her 20th work anniversary last year, became an owner at the start of 2019.

Kim has served on several local committees or boards including the Special Olympics Muskoka Region, Big Sisters of Muskoka, Bracebridge Winter Carnival, Salvation Army Youth Program, Harvest Youth Program, and the School Council for Bracebridge Public School.

Cheryl Cooper

Cheryl has been living in Bracebridge for 30 years with her husband, two sons and two cats. She is a former teacher of the Deaf, having worked at the Metro Toronto School for the Deaf, until she became a full-time author in 2010. Her commercially-published novels include: Come Looking For Me (2010), Second Summer of War (2014) and Run Red with Blood (2018), works of historical fiction set on the high seas during the War of 1812.

Over the years she has worked closely with teenagers-in-crisis in her community, providing free tutoring services, counselling, and sometimes a safe home in which to stay. Her hobbies include: journaling, sketching landscapes, reading historical fiction, travelling and spending time at her cottage on Browning Island, Lake Muskoka.

Derek Schofield

1 Year on the Board

Born and raised in Muskoka, Derek is currently a Special Education Resource Teacher at K.P. Manson. He is also co-owner of Muskoka Summer Hockey School, is the head coach of the Sunderland U19 ringette team, and sits on the executive of the Muskoka Royals Ringette Association. Derek also participates in several local committees, including the Gravenhurst Lions Club Sports Hall of Fame.

Derek is happily married to Rhonda and proud father of Kirsten and Kaitlyn. He is proud to be a Board member of the CFM and is looking forward to many years of supporting kids in our community!
